Lucas e Haley litigano e Haley gli rivela di dar ripetizioni a Nathan, ma con la promessa che Nat lasci stare Lucas. Nathan dice a Tim che crede che tornerà presto assieme a Peyton. Lucas chiede scusa a Haley. Un articolo di giornale riguardante Dan e la sua bravura trasmessa ai suoi figli scombussola Dan. Nathan parla con Peyton ma lei insiste: è finita. Lucas vede Nathan e Haley scherzare e si innervosisce. Peyton inveisce contro Brooke durante le prove delle cheer – leader e le fa una scenata. Lucas chiede a Keith di partecipare alla partita padri – figli e Keith accetta. Dan all’officina dice a Lucas che non dovrebbe portare il suo cognome. Dopo, è Lucas a dire a Keith che vorrebbe cambiare cognome. Dan va da Whitey e gli chiede se sia il caso che Lucas e Keith giochino e Whitey dice che lui sarà sconfitto in partenza, perché è lui che ha fatto un errore e può
anche negarlo, ma Lucas è suo figlio. Karen dice a Lucas che non importa se lui ha un cognome diverso o no, ma gli ricorda che anche Keith è uno Scott e racconta a Lucas della sua nascita e delle lacrime di gioia di Keith. Nathan cerca Peyton, ma non è a scuola. La trova Whitey nel cimitero, davanti alla tomba della madre. Whitey racconta a Peyton della madre, e dice di essere andato al cimitero per visitare la tomba della moglie. Nathan dice a Haley che lui e Peyton si sono lasciati. Peyton continua a passare col rosso ad ogni semaforo e Lucas cerca di fermarla salendo in macchina e Peyton gli racconta che la madre passò una volta col rosso per andarla a prendere e morì. Dan incontra Keith che gli dice che Lucas è uno Scott, così come lo è Dan e così come lo è lui stesso. Peyton va da Whitey a parlare. Nathan dice a Haley che gli manca Peyton e sa di averla trattata male. Nathan ringrazia Haley e dice che gli fa piacere parlare con lei. Whitey rassicura Peyton dicendole che sua madre sarebbe orgogliosa di lei. Haley dice a Lucas che sta soltanto dando lezioni a Nathan senza altri fini e che non vuole che Lucas la eviti. Keith dice a Lucas di pensare bene alla sua decisione e che lui e Karen sono la sua famiglia, ed è felice di giocare con lui. Deb rassicura Nathan: non è obbligato a giocare, può fare le sue scelte. Lucas incontra Peyton e vorrebbe fare qualcosa per aiutarla. Dan è teso per la partita e dice a Deb che è pieno di rimpianti per il passato, per la gloria, e lo definisce il periodo più bello della sua vita. Nathan chiede a Peyton di trascorrere del tempo assieme dopo la partita e le dice che gli manca. Nathan va incontro a Haley e la abbraccia (davanti a Lucas) per aver avuto un ottimo voto. Keith dice agli altri genitori di essere un “sostituto” perché un ragazzo non ha il padre, e guarda Dan. Tutti si divertono alla partita tranne Dan che propone a Nathan un confronto per capire chi dei due è il migliore. Keith cerca di tranquillizzare Nathan e i ragazzi. Peyton continua la sua corsa folle e rischia un incidente. Lucas cerca di insinuare che tra Haley e Nathan ci sia di più di ciò che sembra. Dan fa un brutto fallo a Nathan per impedirgli di fare canestro e Lucas lo rialza e gli propone di batterlo. Nathan dice al padre di fare canestro, visto che ci tiene tanto. Dan lo fa e Nathan dice che nella realtà non lo batterà mai. Lucas dice a Keith di essere orgoglioso per averlo avuto come padre per una sera e che terrà il cognome. Peyton chiede a Nathan se sapeva che sua madre era morta sette anni fa, visto che lui non le aveva mai chiesto niente. A fine episodio vediamo una Peyton serena che finalmente passa col verde.
Haley: Still in denial?
Nathan: About what?
Haley: Missing her. It’s okay that you do.
Nathan: What, are you my tutor or my shrink?
Haley: Whatever you need.
Haley: Rifiuti l’idea!
Nathan: Di cosa?
Haley: Che lei ti manca. E’ normale che sia così.
Nathan: Sei un’insegnante o uno psicologo?
Haley: Quello di cui hai bisogno.
Lucas: I saw you with him.
Haley
: Who Nathan? God, he got a good grade on that math quiz. It was nothing.
Lucas: I want to believe you, Haley. I do. But I don’t think you’re telling the truth.
Haley: I’m am telling the truth Lucas. There’s nothing going on. (Lucas sees her bracelet that Nathan gave her)
Lucas: Nice bracelet.
Lucas: Ti ho visto con lui.
Haley: Nathan? Ha avuto un buon voto in un test di matematica. Tutto qui.
Lucas: Vorrei crederti, Haley. Davvero. Ma non penso che tu dica la verità.
Haley: Io la sto dicendo la verità. Non c’è niente tra noi. (Lucas vedere il braccialetto regalato da Nathan)
Lucas: Bel braccialetto.

: What’s your dad do?
Peyton: Captains a drudging boat. He’s only here for those forked anniversaries but this year, he sent his sympathies in an email. I read your article. I think it seemed like you guys are just one great, big, happy family.
Lucas: Yeah. It’s kind of ironic, huh? You know, I would gladly erase my dad if it would bring back your mom. I wish I could change it for you.
Peyton: Thank you
Lucas: Che mestiere fa?
Peyton: (parlando del padre) E’ il capitano di una draga. Di solito è qui per l’anniversario di mia madre ma questo anno ha inviato le sue condoglianze con un’email. Ho letto l’articolo. Fa apparire gli Scott come un unica grande famiglia felice.
Lucas: Già, ironico vero? Sai cancellerei mio padre se questo potesse far rivivere tua madre. Vorrei aiutarti di cuore.

: Got a sec?
Haley: Hey, yeah, what’s up?
Nathan: Check that out.(Nathan holds up his test)
Haley: An 84! That’s so great.
(Nathan holds out his arms to Haley for a hug)
Haley: Yeah, hey, congratulations!
Nathan: Ciao Haley
Haley: Ciao, cosa c’è Nathan?
Nathan: Guarda qui (Nathan mostra il test)
Haley: 84! E’ un buon voto stupendo.
Haley: (Nathan e Haley si abbracciano) Congratuazioni, fatti abbracciare!
Haley: Lucas, fine! Yes. I know how you feel about him. But there is something you don’t know. I promised him I’d tutor him if he left you alone.
Lucas: What?
Haley: I’m doing it for you, Luke
Haley: Lucas, va bene! Si. Lo so come la pensi su di lui. Ma c’è una cosa che tu non sai. Gli do ripetizioni solo se ti lascia in pace.
Lucas: Cosa?
Haley: Lo sto facendo per te, Luke
Keith: That’s right. Big brother. And no matter what you did on that basketball court a lifetime ago, and no matter what you do now, I’ll always be your big brother. So guess what, Danny boy? It was my name first. It’s Lucas’ name now. And there’s nothing you can do about it.
Dan: Okay, Keith.
Keith: You know, you can be ashamed of me. And you can be ashamed of Lucas. But what makes me think we’re not just as ashamed of you? Huh? Now get out of my shop

: So… support me! When I’m tutoring someone, and they get it, and that light goes on, I feel good! I feel worthy. The same way that you feel when you play basketball. Besides, having things gotten better for you? The team’s left you alone, the hazing’s stopped? Yeah. So, that’s worth the risk for me. What’s not worth the risk it us. We’re friends and that is important to me.
Lucas: You’re just tutoring him?
Haley: I am just tutoring him. That’s it.
Lucas: Okay.
Haley: Allora…sostieni me! Quando do ripetizioni a qualcuno e capsice gli si accende una luce negli occhi ed io sto bene. Sento di valere qualcosa. Quello che provi anche tu quando giochi a basket. Inoltre le cose sono migliorate per te. La squadra adesso non ti tormenta più. Già, perciò secondo me vale il rischio. Ma non vale mettere a rischio noi. Siamo amici e questo è molto importante per me.
Lucas: Gli stai dando ripetizioni?
Haley: Gli sto dando solo ripetizioni! Tutto qui!
Lucas: D’accordo.

: Come on! Slow down, Peyton! Come on! Slow the car down! Peyton slow the car down!
Peyton: She was driving to school to pick me up. She was late, so she ran a red light. It was one light at the wrong split second and it ended for her
Lucas: Peyton ti ho detto di rallentare!

: When I found out I was pregnant, Dan already had a basketball scholarship and nothing was going to get in the way of that. But then something strange happened. Right before classes started, Dan changed his mind. He said he’d finish the semester and… we’d get married. So when I went into labor and you appeared, the nurse asked for your name and I said it was Scott. Keith was there, and when the nurse brought you in she let him hold you. I’ve known Keith my whole life, and that’s the only time I’ve seen him cry. Your father never showed up.
Lucas: So to hell with him. I don’t want his name.
Karen: Keith’s a Scott too, you know
Karen: Quando ho scoperto di essere incinta, Dan aveva già una borsa di studio per il basket e niente avrebbe potuto essere d’intralcio. Ma poi successe qualcosa di strano; prima che iniziassero le lezioni Dan cambiò idea. Disse che una volta finito il semester ci saremmo sposati. Quando entrai in travaglio e arrivasti tu, Lucas, l’infermiera chiese il tuo nome ed io dissi Scott. Keith era presente e quando l’infermiera ti portò in stanza lui ti prese in braccio. Conosco Keith da una vita. Soltanto quella volta l’ho visto piangere. Tuo padre non si fece più vedere.
Lucas: Che vada al diavolo. Non lo voglio il suo nome.
Karen: Anche Keith è uno Scott, lo sai.
Dan
: Hey, kid. Seems as though you have an obligation to the family name too. Don’t blow it.
Lucas: That article’s a lie. You’re not my father and you never were.
Dan: You’re right. It is a lie. You should never have had the name in the first place.
Dan: Anche tu hai obblighi nei confronti della famiglia.
Lucas: Quell’articolo è falso. Tu non sei mio padre.
Dan: Hai ragione, è falso. Non dovresti portare quel nome.
Peyton
: What’s wrong is how pointless all of this is.
Brooke: Stop saying that!
Peyton: No! Because it’s true. What difference does it make if you sleep with a popular guy, or you go to the right party, or you know the moves to some moronic cheer to do with some lame ass game I could care less about!
Peyton: Tutto quello che fai è senza senso.

Dan: True. But there’s also a chance that hell could freeze over.
